Wheatridge, Colorado

Wednesday:

We moved a little further South to Wheatridge (Denver). We enjoyed being off the interstate highway. We took Hwy 287 South from Fort Collins. It was a nice route.

The weather was nice today. Some overcast, some sun and some broken cloud periods.

We went downtown to visit the US Mint but no tours are available, for quite a period. Maybe next time. We took a walk on the downtown mall. A few thrift shops were visited on or return to our new home at Walmarts. We also stopped at a Radio Shack and I picked up a weather radio, just in case.

We're now back into our travel mode. Lou cooked up a great breakfast of fried eggs, smoked pork chops, and toast. Ummm! Our, very late lunch was a great chef's salad. However, we also remembered, from our last visit here, that there is a great breakfast burrito awaiting our return to the Apple Ridge Cafe tomorrow.

Thursday:

Breakfast was as good as expected at the Apple Ridge Cafe, 38th and Kipling. We shared a Breakfast burrito and an order of toast.

We returned to the RV and boarded a bus at the RTD transfer station, next to our "campsite" at WalMart. We checked the RTD website and there is confusion as to whether we could buy a day pass at the King Supers market next to WalMart. The answer is no, the ONLY place to get one, other than having it mailed to you, is at the transit station downtown. Rather inconvenient, so we bought tickets on board and went downtown. We then got our day passes there. Total cost $12 including the tickets downtown. Still a deal. The transit system here is excellent but does have this small marketing bug.

We rode the light rail South to Colorado Station, the #40 bus to Commerce City, the #88 back downtown, the #1 out to BelMar shopping center and then headed home on the #76 and #38. On the way we browsed and some shops and had a lunch at Perkin's of broccoli cheese soup and shared a piece of apple caramel pie. Later we stopped at The Cheesecake Factory downtown and had tea and shared a piece of chocolate caramel cheesecake.

This is the best way to really see the town. We rather liked our tour.

After the sun went down it did get a little colder. When we got home, we enjoyed a real dinner of Italian sausage and baked potatoes with a vegetables. Ok, one known healthy meal for the day. We're trying.
