Tuttle Creek BLM at Lone Pine, Ca

Arrived 8am at Tuttle Creek, a BLM campground. Camping is free, I like that, though they request a donation. This is 1.5 miles off Whitney Portal Road and 8 miles West of Lone Pine. Elevation at the camp is 5017 feet. Mt Whitney, which is just above the camp is 14,494 feet. This is high desert with lots of sage brush and sand. I’m camped next to Tuttle Creek which has plenty of water flowing and some trees like to stay nearby. The campground is about half full, but almost all the creek sites are taken. My site has the best beech on the creek. The view of the valley below and the rugged mountains above is grand!

My camp site, Lone Pine Peak behind it in the right Picture.
