Trinity River Campground

Thursday: (05/13) After a ham and cheese sandwich with tomato soup lunch we hooked up and hit the road West on Highway 89. We stopped in McCloud and filled our propane tank. We then continued to I5 then North on I5 to Weed then onto Old Highway 99 to Yreka where we stopped at Walmart and Raley's Market for a few supplies, then gassed up the RV and caught Highway 3 South toward Trinity Lake. We haven't been in this area before, something new. We stopped a couple of times coming down the hills to cool the brakes. Our transmission has some problems and won't stay in the low gears to help slow us down coming down hills. At one stop we had strawberry shortcake, at another ham and cheese rolls. It's a good thing we only had the two summits. We stopped for the night at the Trinity River USFS campground. We had some leftover salmon casserole with wild rice for dinner.

Friday: (05/14) Another nice sunny day. Even though the snow was 3 feet deep in the campground at the summit, here by the river it was over 60 degrees at 9am. We started the day with a walk by the Trinity River which is flowing quite well with the snow runoff.

Blue Flowers Sunflower Bush
There were some nice flowers on this walk especially the sun flowers.

White Flowers Trinity River
The white flowers seemed to have a bad petal day. The river was flowing quite fast and wide.

Red Flower At trinity River CG Blue Flowers
The red fowers on the left and the small blue ones on the right above were more rare than the sunflowers and blue clusters shown earlier.

After our morning walk we had pancakes and sausage for breakfast.

For lunch Lou fixed nachos with tri-tip and avocado. After lunch I took another walk along the river with my camera and captured some of the flowers and interesting rocks. Yes rocks, they are very colorful and have interesting patterns. These mountains are very steep and rocky but aren't as limited in variety as down in the desert or over near Lassen. I'm not sure that pictures do them justice but they are interesting. On my hike I also came upon a shy garter snake. I couldn't get a picture.

Today is a day to rest up. Lou worked on her dolls. i worked on the photos for the blog and napped.

Dinner was smoked ham with corn on the cob and coleslaw. After dinner we hiked over to where I'd seen the snake and at first didn't find it. When we'd given up, we came upon three of them. This time I got some pictures. The river rose about a foot with the warm day and melting snow.
