Valley Of Fire State Park, Nv
Tuesday: After more grocery shopping, LPG getting, and gas getting we finally left Las Vegas about noon. We headed North on I15 about 30 miles then took the #75 exit toward the Valley Of Fire SP. After finding our campsite here at Atlatl Campground we took a short walk around the campground. It was quite cool and overcast. We had nice sun early this morning but it disappeared behind a layer of clouds by noon. We had hamburgers for dinner then entertained ourselves inside the rest of the evening.
Wednesday: Up early to see the sun rise over the red rocks here at Valley Of Fire. The sky was clear, no wind and the temperature about 40 degrees, but a comfortable 40 in the sun.
This campground has had some improvements since our last visit a couple of years ago. It was an excellent campground before with each site having a good sized parking space, a sun shelter, a good table and a fire pit. There are nice restrooms and showers as well. Spaces are $14 a night. But now, they have added a new campsite loop for RV's only that have electric and water but no sewer hookups. These sites cost $10 more for a total of $24 a night. We opted for the standard site just at the edge of the rocks. If they had sewer or if it was hot we probably would have used the hookups. Lou cooked home fires, sausage and eggs for breakfast. We then took a walk around, up, through and by a lot of the rocks near camp. I scaled a couple of the peaks and discovered how small this big park is. we examined what flowers we found and animal tracks, and the interesting rocks.
After our walk it was time for grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. We had some bread to get rid of, so why not.
We then relaxed in the afternoon sun doing hobbies or not until the sun disappeared behind the rocks and it turned cold again.
Valley Of Fire's name is presumably derived from the presence of lots of red rocks exiting there. On the right above is our campsite there.

Even in January there are flowers. On the right, the view from the top of one of the mountains (rocks).

More views from the top.

The view of our campsite from a rock above our camp just before sunrise. A sunset.

Snake tracks? or?
>
The petroglyths at Atlantl Rock near our campsite. There was a sign that prevented us from being there together that we ignored. We figured if the Smith's could gather there then the Wood's could as well.

A mountain sheep that we saw around the otherside of the rocks by our camp.

The ruins near the White Domes. these were part of the set of a movie made there. Another sunset on the right.
While we were at the dumps station when we were departing, we saw a hawk roosting (as it often does per the white marks on the red rocks). It had a good view in 360 degrees looking for it's next meal.

Thursday: We took a long hike out the back of camp. On the return, we looked at the petroglyphs at Adlantl Rock.
