We settled into site #98. Lou fixed ham sandwiches for lunch with flan for desert.

Big Morongo Canyon Preserve Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
We drove down to Morongo Valley to the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. We took a walk on their boardwalk trails.

Baby Hawk Baby Hawk
We especially liked the hawk nest with its four fledglings.

We waited a long time hoping to see a feeding but evidently mom was having trouble finding dinner. While there we heard of the Whitewater Preserve. nearby.

Whitewater River
Whitewater River. I didn't realize there was an all year river here.

Whitewater Preserve Ranger Station Whitewater Preserve Pond
The Whitewater Preserve is 4 miles West of highway 62 off I10. It was an old fish hatchery up until a couple of years ago. We drove down to take a look there since we heard you could camp for free. You can, but not in an RV.

Whitewater Preserve Pond Ducks In Whitewater Preserve Pond
Why isn't the water white in the Whitewater preserve's ponds?

On the way home we stopped for dinner at Willy Boy's Saloon and Dance Hall. The sign said BBQ and the parking lot was full so we assumed it was good. It was. I had BBQ ribs with potato and beans and Lou had a steak with sweet potato fries and beans. We settled in to our new camp for the evening.
