Rogue River Jet Boat Trip

We got up and out early to go on a jet boat trip on the Rogue River. We've done the trip before but it's always fun.

We're ready to go Our boat
We took the 64 mile trip to Agness with Jerry's Rogue Jets. We left at 08:30. The weather was perfect for our trip both going and coming. In the afternoon the winds became really heavy but we had already returned before that.

Rogue River Rogue River
We enjoyed the wonderful scenery on the trip. Lots of wildlife. Osprey, bald eagles, heron, otter, harbor seals, and bears.
Our boat leaving the dock at Agness Otter on Rogue River
Above left our boat leaving the dock at Agness. You have a choice of three places to have lunch. We've always chosen Lucas Lodge for the chicken dinner. Some day we'll have to try one of the other places. On the right an otter seen on the way up river. It's a pup. We saw another on the return trip. They do look like the muskrats we saw in Bakersfield.
Our pilot Drake Our pilot Drake
Our pilot Drake was excellent both in his chatter and in providing thrills. While he's only been doing this for three years, he's grew up on the river and has been boating on this river since age 10. What a place to grow up and work. All the pilots seem to be family. He "inherited" his job when his uncle retired.
A Studebaker on a pedestal Lucas Lodge cat
At Lucas Pioneer Ranch in Agness there was a nice Studebaker pickup on an island in the middle of their pond. Interesting place. On the right above is a picture of the lodge cat. We had to indulge ourselves with petting the cat. We had our lunch at the Lodge. They serve only chicken dinners but it's really good. Like eating at mom's.
Osprey Osprey chicks waiting for mom to return with a fish
An osprey looking for fish. On right osprey chicks waiting for mom to return with a big fish. The fish was so big the mom had difficulting getting altitude to get back to the nest. She finally tired and landed on a different tree. i don't know if she just rested or worked on reducing the size of the fish. I missed mom in flight.

An interesting fact. Drake mentioned that the boat was powered by three 454 Vortec Chevy engines. That's three times the power of our RV which has only one.
