I led the eleven hikers on a figure eight loop hike from Portola State Park into Pescadero Creek Park on the Pomponio Trail, up Shingle Mill Trail, Down the Tarwater Trail, out the Canyon Trail a short way to see the tar in the water of the creek, back to the Tarwater Trail, the Pomponio Trail, the Bridge trail, Old Haul Road then up the Portola Trail and down again to the Old Haul Road again, and finally on the Iverson Trail to our start. Beautiful day for the hike. Back home a long nap was in order. Leftovers for dinner.

Fluttering Around Projects

Saturday: (01/25) I relaxed in the morning. Later I was a chauffeur. In the afternoon, I tried to install a breaker for the inverter input. It’s only protected by it’s internal breaker and the battery overload breaker now. Unfortunately, the 300 amp breaker I bought trips at less than the 152 amp load of the microwave. So I removed it. I did have to re-crimp the lug on the cable. Sometime, I’ll have to re-crimp all of my original crimps. Granola for breakfast. Lunch at The Creamery in downtown Palo Alto. Lou and I looked at a nearby open house. Dawn made chili beans for dinner. In the evening I prepared and scheduled a hike for next Friday.

Sunday: (01/26) I worked on tax preparation for most of the day. Ham , eggs and potatoes for breakfast. PBJ toast for lunch. Spaghetti for dinner.

Monday: (01/27) Granola for breakfast. Lunch at the Little House in Menlo Park. Lou and Dawn had a balance class there. I explored nearby and also checked Heritage Grove Trailhead access and parking for a future hike. Lou had an appointment in the afternoon in Santa Clara. Chili beans for dinner.

Tuesday: (01/28) Granola for breakfast. I started the day with a bike ride to look over all the nearby construction projects. Back home, I warmed up the little car with a run to Sprouts Market for some trail snacks. Then I stopped by and got the car smog tested. Hummus toast for lunch. Dinner at LUU Noodle House. After dinner we went to see Little Women at the Icon Theater.

Wednesday: (01/29) I prepared pork chops with eggs and home fried potatoes. I worked in the RV for a while then got outside and started more tree trimming above the back fence. I’m doing serious limb removal to raise the limbs and allow more sunlight in the back flowerbed. I interrupted that project and went to lunch with Lou, Dawn and Cecelia at the Sweet Tomato Salad Buffet. Back home, I completed my trimming and debris removal.

Thursday: (01/30) Lou and Dawn were off to Safeway early. I washed the two cars and the RV in the morning. Chili beans and toast for lunch. Lou and I drove to San Jose to deliver a rent increase letter to the tenants at Dawn’s house. We stopped at Walmart on the way home and picked up our order of tea. It was short one box so I used the online account to report it and it’s on the way. Dawn’s fish and artichokes over rice for dinner. After dinner I updated the radio software in the Jeep trying to get the remote system app to work. After 30 minutes on the phone with tech support it still doesn’t work but it is elevated to a ticket.

Pinnacles NP High Peaks Hike

Friday: (01/24) Up early and off to Pinnacles National Park for a hike. Tara led a wonderful hike up the High Peaks Trail and down the Juniper Trail and back on the Balconies Trail for a 9 mile hike. We got to see seven condors flying or perched near the trail. Even though it was foggy on the drive to the park, we had nice clear skies on the trail. Water was flowing on some creeks that are normally dry so there was even a couple of waterfalls. Granola for breakfast. I had a late lunch about 1530 at Super Taqueria in Hollister before heading home.

The views from the top of the ridge were great. Granola and banana for breakfast. Lou and Dawn went to Old Juan’s restaurant for lunch. I had leftovers for my lunch. A Little Work And Fun

Tuesday: (01/07) I was the chauffeur again today. I took Lou to an appointment in Santa Clara and Dawn to an appointment in San Jose. After that, we went to lunch in Campbell at Aqui’s restaurant. We then located Dawns Health Care offices in South San Jose and dropped off some papers. We returned to Santa Clara and visited the Walmart Neighborhood Market for a few things , then headed home. I then took Dawn to the library to pick a book she ordered. At home, I made spaghetti for dinner. In the evening I scheduled a hike for next Monday and applied for the permit.

Wednesday: (01/08) Leftover spaghetti for breakfast. I tinkered in the morning. I fed the cat and gave him some attention. I installed new armrests on the wheelchair. And then I started moving the paving bricks from the pallet in the driveway to the side of the house. It doesn’t seem like I’ll be getting to that job soon. I can’t start until Lou and Dawn finish using the tent for their cleanup activities. Before I finished, we all headed off to return some equipment to La Avanidas senior center. We then went to lunch at Sweet Tomatoes. On the way home, we shopped at Sprouts. Back home I finished moving the bricks and tied the pallet on top of the little car to be returned later. Dawn made some soup for dinner. I finished an electrical drawing and notes for the RV.

Thursday: (01/09) A rainy relaxing morning. Leftover spaghetti for breakfast. We finally headed out to lunch and for an indoor walk. We tried to leave and got a call from Cecelia that she was coming over to talk. We returned the one block back to the house. Again, we departed and tried to get lunch at a Panera Bread but the line was out the door. We continued on to Super Taqueria, Lou and I shared a super burrito and Dawn had a quesadillas. We stopped by a thrift store and a Target store to fulfill Lou’s need for a walk. Back home, I got to work on the RV and removed the old solar controller and rewired the shunts. Tomorrow, hopefully, I’ll get the new DC-DC charger installed. More leftovers for dinner.

Friday: (01/10) It was raining in the morning. Later, I worked on the RV installing a cable from the starting battery to the new charger in other battery compartment and removed some cabling related to the old charger and solar controller. I fried some eggs and vegetable bacon and added toast for my breakfast. Lou and Dawn had spaghetti. Leftovers for dinner.

Saturday: (01/11) Granola and banana for breakfast. I worked on the RV electrical mods installing and rerouting some cables. Lunch at Super Taqueria again. Lou and I stopped by Lowe’s Home Improvement to get some hardware. And then a stop at Sprouts before getting home. I did some more work on the RV. I still need to install one cable and the temperature sensor and then check it out. Unfortunately I ran out of #4 cable so it has to wait until tomorrow's shipment arrives. Scalloped potatoes with carrots and sausage for dinner.

Sunday: (01/12) Dawn’s leftover soup for breakfast. I finished installing the Renology DCC50S dc-dc charger in the RV. I was missing enough of the proper sized cable to finish the install so I installed a temporary larger cable and tested the operation. Nothing smoked but the breaker that connects to charger to the house battery tripped when I ran the RV engine. Further looking at the manual told me that it may be too low a rating. I had gone down 5 amps and it should be higher. I ordered the needed cable and breakers. The cable came just after I tested it. I installed the new cable and put away all my stuff that I collected for the installation. We went to Super Taqueria again for lunch.. Leftovers for dinner.

Los Trancos OSP Hike

Monday: (01/06) I was up early to get ready for my hike. Alex met me and We picked up Lynn on the way up to Los Trancos Open Space preserve for the hike. I had 17 fellow hikers met us for the hike. This is a repeat of one of my earliest hike routes. It wanders around the trails in the preserve. This preserve has lots of earthquake related things to look at. A fence here was offset 6 feet in the 1906 earthquake. We hiked down the mountain into the Foothills Park then returned up various tails to our start. It was a 6 mile hike with about 600 feet of climb. At home, I picked up Lou and Dawn and we went out to lunch at Coupa Cafe in Los Altos. Back home, I cleaned up and took a nap.

Thursday: (01/02) I started binge watching Midsomer Murders, Season 14 early this Morning. The first episode of the season was on local TV but I missed the first half so tuned it in on Roku TV.
