Grand Canyon, Post Big Hike

Monday: (04/15) Sausage gravy over baked potatoes for breakfast. We had to move from our spot at Trailer Village, the RV park, over to the campground again, space 249 in Mather CG. Nice and sunny spot. Today, other than the move, was a relaxing day for me. It was a bit windy and cold all day. Tuna stuffed tomatoes for lunch. Chili sizes for dinner.

Tuesday: (04/16) We spent the day riding the shuttle bus from view-point to view-point. It wasn't the best of days.

Above left is a photo of how I felt when I finished my hike up the Bright Angel Trail the other day. And on th right is a rare photo of Lou and I.

Grand Canyon West Rim Road Views
The wind was blowing heavily and it was really cold. But the views were good.

In the evening, we went to a ranger program about the California Condor reintroduction to the Grand Canyon. Chorizo hash for breakfast. Lunch at the Bright Angel Lodge Restaurant. I had a pepper cheese chicken sandwich and Lou had a chili bowl. We topped lunch with a shared slice of cheese cake. Dinner was chili sizes.

Wednesday: (04/17) Chorizo hash with eggs and toasted chocolate muffins for breakfast. We drove out the road to Hermit's Rest. The road is closed to all but shuttle buses and handicap access. Lou got a permit so she dropped me off at the end of the road and I started hiking back. She enjoyed a roaring fire in the shop at Hermit's Rest. There are several view points that can't be reached by the shuttle bus so she stopped at all of them to check out the views.

I walked back on the rim trail but not the paved trail rather on the old dirt trail right near the rim.

I was enjoying the views so wasn't making great speed. I only made it to the Abyss viewpoint, about 3 miles when our forecast rain and snow was about to arrive so Lou came back and picked me up.

Great views along the trail but finally the clouds got too close. Note the rain.snow approaching from the North above right.

Grand Canyon Elk By Bright Angel Lodge
Some elk seen near the Village. We stopped at the bright Angel Restaurant again for lunch. I had the Canyon grilled sandwich (ham, turkey, bacon and Swiss on sourdough). Lou had an excellent spinach, pecan, jicama, and Mandarin orange salad with lemon dressing. It was followed with camel cheese cake, again. The winds had picked up and we were getting a dusting of snow but no real rain. It was very cold though. At 6pm it was 32 degrees. Probably barely over a high of 40 today. We relaxed at home most of the afternoon but did get out to do some grocery shopping. Tomorrow we plan to leave the park heading into Utah. Evidently we can't expect much high temperatures for the next couple of days. For dinner we had some of Lou's black bean chili bean soup and bread.
